On February 24 and 25, the Care Economy in Africa Project (CEAP) convened stakeholders from across the academic, policy, and advocacy sectors for a forum in Saly, Senegal. With the support of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, CEAP has been operating for the past several years under the direction of Latif Dramani and Isabella Aboderin. The project is also affiliated with CGSP’s larger Care Economies in Context project, the African portion of which has now come to a close.
The forum was an opportunity for stakeholders to:
- Share knowledge and expertise on the current/ evolving perspectives and activities in the field of ‘care economy’ across the spheres of policy, practice, funding, and the academy;
- Share and foster discussion on the project’s major findings, as well as methodological insights and new queries generated by the project; and
- Share participants’ concrete ideas and suggestions on the ‘so what’ and ‘what next’ – i.e. envisioning plans for building on the projects’ outcomes
Congratulations to everyone involved in the project, including the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC), the Regional Generational Economics Research Consortium (CREG), the Institute for Economic Justice (IEJ), and the Afrifem Macroeconomics Collective (NAWI).
