Research Opportunity for Undergraduate Students

Professor Ito Peng, Canada Research Chair in Global Social Policy, will be leading a full credit Research Opportunity Program (ROP) Course in the summer term. Students in this ROP will work with Professor Peng on a research project called “The Hidden Costs of Care: Unpaid Childcare and Eldercare in Canada.” The research seeks to understand the work that family members and friends provide in child care and care of the elderly, outside from paid employment. It seeks to understand the costs of care on the health and well-being of the people who provide it, and on their employment. ROP students will work in a team of faculty, graduate students and other ROP students to process and analyze interviews. For instructions as to how to apply to the ROP position, please see this video produced by the Faculty of Arts and Science. Students must be in their 2nd or 3rd year of studies.
Students might also apply to work with us through the University of Toronto Excellence Awards and/or the CIHR and SSHRC Black Student Undergraduate Student Research Awards. These awards provide funding for summer research activities. In either case, successful students will work together as a team to further the progress of the Hidden Costs of Care project.
