In an opinion piece for Rabble entitled “Fighting rising intimate partner violence in Canada through the Universal Caregiver model”, Thea Baines argues that Canada’s response to IPVAW fails to tackle its root causes. Instead, she calls for a “Universal Care” approach that prevents violence by transforming the structural conditions that enable it.

Thea Baines is a graduate student at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, as well as the Centre for Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies. Her research focuses on intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) and the ways social policy can be leveraged to understand and address this issue.
