The Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence, a partner on Ito Peng’s Care Economies in Context SSHRC Partnership Grant, released a report highlighting insights from a survey they commissioned regarding the lives of caregivers (unpaid) and care providers (paid) in Canada.
The report highlights 6 key messages:
- Caregiving takes a toll on a caregiver’s wellbeing.
- Caregivers are working an “extra-shift.”
- Many caregivers are 65+ and may also need care.
- Caregiving can have a significant financial toll.
- Care provider shortage linked to poor working conditions.
- Diverse communities face additional barriers and gaps in supports.
