Care as a Political Horizon: Public Policies, Alternatives, and Social Transformation

University of Costa Rica panel features Laura Rivera-Alfaro’s insights into public care policy in Costa Rica

The panel “Care as a Political Horizon: Public Policies, Alternatives, and Social Transformation” was held virtually on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, and was organized by the Central American Postgraduate Program in Sociology. The panel included Dr. Alanis Bello Ramírez, professor in the Department of Sociology at the National University of Colombia, and was moderated by Dr. Nancy Piedra Guillén, director of the Central American Master’s Program in Sociology and research professor at the School of Sociology of the University of Costa Rica. Laura Rivera-Alfaro’s participation focused on characterizing public care policy in Costa Rica, emphasizing the architecture of social policy and the funding cuts that have recently been implemented in the country.
