Care Economies in Context

Welcome to Care Economies Postdoctoral Fellow, Alexa Carson

We welcome Alexa Carson as a short-term postdoctoral fellow to the Centre for Global Social Policy.

In the fall of 2026, CGSP introduced a new Care Economies in Context Short-Term Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The goals of the program are to support early career researchers in care research and encourage cross-fertilization of ideas to support a vibrant community of researchers in the field of care studies. In autumn 2026, we accepted two postdoctoral fellows into the program.

Alexa Carson’s scholarly expertise is at the nexus of migration, social policy, and family care. Her dissertation in Sociology from the University of Toronto, entitled “Looking after our seniors: How immigrant and non-immigrant families in Canada experience and make-sense of later life care,” explored later life family care practices and experiences, with a comparative focus between immigrant and non-immigrant families.is a recent graduate of our own.

Alexa joins us for a six-month postdoctoral fellowship beginning September 15th and ending in March. While here, Alexa will research the impacts of out-of-sequence care events, as well as how older people and their families conceptualize and make decisions about transitions into long-term care.
