Caring Across Generations

Two new StatCan articles on multi/ intergenerational households provide insights into unpaid family care

Reports are titled “Unpacking Canada’s multigenerational households: A look at the people who call them home” and “Adulting together: Parents and adult children who co-reside”

Statistics Canada has published two new analytical articles looking at multigenerational households (which are composed of three or more generations of the same family), and intergenerational households (where parents are living with their adult children aged 20 and over).

Although not explicitly about care, these articles provide insights into the connections between caregiving and multi/ intergenerational living, touching on issues such as ageing in place, caregiver well-being, informal care for children and adults in need, and factors motivating the use of long-term care homes.

You can access each article on the Statistics Canada website, or as PDFs at the bottom of this page.
