Welcoming Haejoo Chung, Visiting Scholar

Professor Haejoo Chung is joining the Centre for Global Social Policy as a Visiting Scholar for the 2024-5 academic year.

CGSP welcomes Haejoo Chung as a visiting scholar for the new academic year. Haejoo Chung is Professor in Health and Social Policy, Director of BK21FOUR R&E Center for Learning Health Systems and Vice-Director of Institute of Sustainable Development at Korea University.

Chung earned her PhD in Health and Social Policy from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She was a CIHR IHSPR Post-Doctoral Trainee at University of Toronto.

Her research focuses on health and social policies’ impact on health inequity and on strategies for innovating community care policies. Her recent research focuses on designing Smart Healthy Cities, integrating population-level healthy cities strategies with smart technologies, while supporting a health and social care economy that supports care workers and care recipients.

While at the Centre for Global Social Policy, she aims to develop a care-focused typology of universal health services to expand the understanding of health care systems to achieve continuum of care among health, medical, and social care.

In the Republic of Korea, she served on the Presidential Committee on Policy Planning and is currently a member of the Fiscal Policy Advisory Council at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and a long-term member of both Social Security Council and Central Medical Aid Review Council at the Ministry of Health and Welfare. She is also a Vice-Chair of the RC25 (Comparative Health Policy) of the International Political Science Association.
