We welcome Professor Liu Hong to our Centre as a visiting scholar. Dr. Liu Hong is an associate professor at Fudan University’s School of Social Development and Public Policy in Shanghai. His research focuses on the social organization of care, with a focus on understanding how care work for the elderly and children is structured, provided, and experienced in China’s changing community, organizational, and policy landscapes. His recent work took him to rural China, where he closely observed the nascent care services for children and gained insights into the roles of non-profit organizations, charitable foundations, and the government agencies in molding care policies and services in a developmental context. While at the University of Toronto’s Department of Sociology and Centre for Global Policy, his aspiration is to cultivate a comparative research agenda on care work and sustainable social development. He is dedicated to fostering connections and dialogue, especially in times when compassion and understanding are increasingly essential.
