Statistics Canada is looking to hire a student or recent graduate (MA or PhD) to help on a new project on the care economy. The care economy encompasses paid and unpaid acre provided in Canada to care-dependent adults with long-term conditions or disabilities and care-dependent children. The care economy is an important growth engine for Canadian society, and is critical to the health, wellbeing, and economic prosperity of Canadians.
The student would work with experts and Statistics Canada staff. The work can be done virtually anywhere from within Canada. The position is a part-time casual contract (minimum of 3 days per week), starting in January 2022 or as soon as possible.
Tasks
• Conduct and write an environmental scan on the care economy, including a review of research on and policy implications for the care economy, in Canada and internationally
• Assist with engagement with experts for the conceptual framework of the care economy, including attending and note-taking at meetings with internal and external experts
• Map existing Statistics Canada data sources to the conceptual framework of the care economy and identify data gaps, focusing on timeliness, quality, ability to disaggregate, tracking over time, and consistency across areas of Statistics Canada
Requirements and Assets
• Masters or PhD (in progress or completed) in sociology, social policy, economics, or a related field
• Strong research skills
• Previous experience doing literature reviews
• Familiarity with research on the care economy or caregiving for elders, adults, or children is an asset
• Familiarity with Statistics Canada data sources is an asset
• Previous experience working with government or non-profit organizations is an asset
• Available a minimum of 3 days per week
